Activity

The candidate must have a good knowledge of the different methodological approaches for the acquisition and analysis of behavioral data, psychometric characterization, experimental psychology and neuroimaging, as well as an adequate level of scientific maturity to carry out an independent research activity. In the light of the integrated multidisciplinary activities implemented by the IMT School, the candidate will have to give impetus to the collaborations between the neuroscientific area and the economic area, thus favoring the launch of research projects on topics related to the neurobiological and social characterization of human behavior mainly in the financial and economic sectors. The researcher will then have to integrate into the experimental activities of the Innovation Center Lab - Neuroscience and to contribute to the definition of a joint psychophysical laboratory between different disciplines.
The researcher will be asked to perform teaching activities into the tracks of Cognitive Computational and Social Neurosciences and Economics, Networks and Business Analytics, and to contribute to the seminar activities of the PhD and MOMILAB and AXES research units, to the supervision of the students, to the organization of seminars, conferences and other scientific and cultural initiatives of the School.
Regarding the third mission, that is to say the activities aimed at favoring the direct application, exploitation and use of knowledge, the candidate's research skills and activities will allow to cover relevant areas precisely in the interaction between neurosciences and economics, and mainly in the study of the perceptive, cognitive, affective and social factors that influence our decision-making processes.
In this sense, the researcher represents a very important resource for IMT because it will enable collaborations to be carried out on research projects with the main national and international actors in a scientific sector still under definition and in full expansion.
Likewise, the study and characterization of decision-making processes in the economic and financial field, and in particular in behaviors that also influence marketing, represent one of the most important challenges and the most debated topics in the neuroeconomics, with significant ethical, moral and juridical implications.

Profile

During the term of the contract, the researcher will be called to work in the area of neuroscience with particular attention to decision-making processes in the economic and managerial fields. The researcher will have to pay specific attention to the issues related to the cognitive, affective and social processes that preside over the choices, both in controlled experimental conditions and in a more ecological way in the real world. In particular, interaction with other disciplinary domains will be fundamental, and in particular those of psychology, microeconomics, behavioral economics, management science, data analytics and the philosophy of science. The researcher will be asked to analyze the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the decision-making processes of man, both as a human being and as a subject belonging to economic and social organizations through methods of neuroimaging.

Formal requirements

PhD in a field related to the present call obtained in Italy or abroad. Curriculum with a suitable scientific background for carrying out research activity in the required field. Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken.

Procedure

A Selection Committee, appointed by the Director, assesses all applications on the basis online application info and - if provided - reference letters. Applicants selected on the basis of the preliminary analysis are interviewed at the Job Market Meetings in which the Institute is planning to participate, if applicable to the specific academic sector. Alternatively, individual preliminary interviews may also be conducted at IMT or by conference call. Travel expenses to Lucca for the preliminary interview will not be reimbursed. Shortlisted candidates are invited for a Job Market Presentation open to IMT faculty members and students. Travel expenses for the Job Market Presentation will be reimbursed.

Selection Criteria

The evaluation criteria are based on: Quality of research activity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and references; Research organization experience and participation in international/national research projects and research periods in public and private institutions (academic and non-academic); Relevance of the candidate's profile for the development of IMT's research activities; Teaching, mentoring and supervision experience; Motivation; Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; As well as any other requirements as specified in the advertisement.
