The researcher will contribute to the development of frontier research in economics by modeling and analyzing economic and social phenomena using a wide range of theoretical and empirical tools. He or she will actively participate in the School's research in a variety of fields, from theoretical economics to applied econometrics, including international economics, political economy, space and urban economics, and industrial organization, including aspects related to innovation and experimental economics. The main objective is to produce original research, providing key information for policy formulation, with a practical approach aimed at solving concrete problems and studying environmental, demographic, and digital transitions, thus contributing to the development of effective policies and the evaluation of their impact.
The ideal profile will take an integrated approach, combining skills and tools from different disciplines, such as complex systems analysis, mathematical programming, probability and statistics. Candidates with a modern approach to economics, aimed at addressing current economic and social challenges, are sought. With this in mind, the ideal candidate will use data science methodologies, combining them with traditional econometric and experimental techniques to create new opportunities for innovative research and analysis.

 

Profile

 

The IMT Alti Studi Lucca School invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in economics with an international profile. Preference will be given to applications from those who have completed a PhD in Economics or a related field. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. The position involves the development of frontier research activities in economics also carried out in collaboration with colleagues in the School.

Formal requirements

 

- have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent degree as of May 15, 2025, awarded in Italy or abroad
- have completed the doctoral course having carried out a period, of at least 3 months, of training and research abroad 
-have not gained consolidated experience in the management of research groups and are not in a contractual position that guarantees them stable career prospects in research.
This definition includes those who:
- as of February 20, 2025, the date of publication of D.D. No. 47/2025, have not completed their 41st year of age
or
- as of February 20, 2025, the date of publication of D.D. No. 47/2025, have not completed their 46th year of age and have completed their PhD for a maximum of 7 years
Applicants and candidates must also be in one or more of the following conditions:
- need to gain initial experience as a fund manager and/or research activity;
- need to gain experience in leadership and management of a national and/or international research team;
- do not have or have not had a permanent Full Time Equivalent (FTE) contract as a researcher and/or tenured professor.
