PhD Programs

The IMT School offers six interdisciplinary PhD Programs with the common mission of fostering interdisciplinary research and benefiting from the complementarity of multiple methodologies inferred from subjects such as economics, management, engineering, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, physics, cognitive and social neuroscience, archaeology, art history, and cultural heritage analysis and management. These subjects offer a unique and characterizing set of skills in analyzing and managing a plurality of systems.

PhD Program in Cognitive, Computational and Social Neurosciences
 

This research-based, multidisciplinary PhD Program focuses on cognitive, computational and social neurosciences, and integrates basic neuroscience methods with traditional experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience. The track prepares researchers capable of developing innovative research strategies and creative ideas to monitor, understand and predict human behavior, mind and its complexity.

PhD Program in Cultural Systems

The PhD Program Cultural Systems constitutes a unique multidisciplinary environment. It trains students to undertake cutting-edge research in the many scientific fields related to cultural systems and to operate as high-level, innovative cultural heritage professionals. It offers two tracks, Analysis and Management of Cultural Heritage (AMCH) and Museum Studies (MUST). Both research- and practice-oriented courses are in the program, which aims at opening career paths in Academia, museums, cultural institutions, creative industries, and private companies. Students are encouraged to spend part of their training abroad within the Erasmus+ framework and ad hoc mobility agreements.

PhD Program in Economics, Analytics and Decision Sciences

The PhD Program in Economics, Analytics and Decision Sciences trains students to undertake cutting-edge research in a wide range of economic and social disciplines with a unique multidisciplinary approach that relies on the unifying language of statistics and data science, as well as on selected tools from computer science and psychology.

PhD Program in Systems Science

The PhD program in Systems Science (SyS) equips students with advanced skills for tackling research on technological, natural, economic, and social systems using mathematical models. Throughout their doctoral studies, SyS students learn various skills that enable them to create, employ, and implement techniques for analyzing and predicting complex phenomena. These techniques involve analytical, numerical, and computational models that originate from first principles or data, incorporating a range of interdisciplinary fields such as mathematics, operations research, physics, statistics, computer science, and engineering.

PhD Program in Management of Digital Transformation

The main goal of the PhD program in Management of Digital Transformation is to train a new executive class to respond to the management needs of digital transition processes, drawing inspiration from and responding to the needs outlined in the PNRR to bring businesses and institutions together with universities and research.
The MDT doctoral program pursues this goal by combining a "horizontal" approach to academic activities with a "vertical" approach to research. The PhD Program offers a cross-disciplinary educational offer of a multidisciplinary nature dedicated to digital transition issues addressed from a cultural, economic, social, engineering, IT, legal, managerial, neuroscientific, and psychological perspective.
The distinguishing feature of the PhD Program in MDT is the corporate involvement: Research activities entail a specific in-depth study on a highly-qualified scientific project highly-qualified scientific project in line with the student's curricular profile and motivations, developed jointly by an academic advisor and a company representative.

National PhD in Cybersecurity

Beginning with the 2022/2023 Academic Year, the IMT School is the leading institution of the National Doctorate in Cybersecurity organized in collaboration with other universities and research institutions to train a new generation of scholars, and future decision-makers, who can support and increase the resilience of citizens, public institutions and businesses to cyber-attacks. The National PhD in Cybersecurity prepares you to analyze and solve a broad spectrum of cybersecurity-related problems, all with a high institutional, social, and industrial interest, with the primary objective of identifying practical solutions in various fields. Through a strong multi- and inter-disciplinary approach, the PhD program provides a basic exposure to such a wide-ranging spectrum of competencies and focuses on four key thematic Specialization Curricula:

  • Foundational Aspects in Cybersecurity
  • Software, System, and Infrastructure Security
  • Data Governance & Protection
  • Human, Economic, and Legal Aspects of Cybersecurity

PhD graduates will possess the necessary technical knowledge and expertise on information technologies, will be able to understand the general socio-legal framework in which they operate and to design operational processes in line with fundamental rights protection standards, regulatory obligations, international policies, and economic implications.
